THE BUTCHER OF ABERDEEN
The Butcher of Aberdeen by author and screenwriter Rojé Augustin revisits one of Australia’s most notorious crimes, examining the life and patterns of violence that preceded the murder of John Price.
Working directly with Rojé around the book’s release, Morii Media created a tailored collection of photography, video and social media content for her own channels. The project took us to Aberdeen to photograph Rojé and locations connected to the story, before documenting her in-conversation event and book signing at Dymocks Sydney.
Challenge.
With an established publicity campaign already surrounding the book, Rojé wanted a collection of original content created specifically for her own platforms.
The project needed to:
● Feel personal to Rojé while complementing the broader campaign.
● Reflect the gravity of the book’s subject without becoming sensational.
● Connect Rojé with Aberdeen and the locations at the centre of the story.
● Capture the energy of the Sydney launch across photography and video while preserving its candid, intimate moments.
Solution.
We developed a two-pronged approach:
-
We travelled with Rojé to Aberdeen, creating photography and video in locations connected to the story. The shoot combined author portraits with environmental imagery, placing Rojé within the landscape she had spent years researching and writing about.
-
We photographed and filmed Rojé’s in-conversation event with Stevie Jacobs at Dymocks Sydney, capturing the discussion, audience, signing and candid moments throughout the evening. The material was then shaped into adaptable content for Rojé’s social media and professional platforms.
Results.
● Delivered a cohesive collection of author portraits, location imagery, event photography and video tailored to Rojé’s own platforms.
● Photography from the Aberdeen shoot was published across print and online media coverage of the book, including Sydney Weekend and news.com.au.
● Created adaptable social media content that extended the project beyond the launch itself.
● Documented both the locations connected to the book and Rojé’s experience of sharing it with a live audience.
